How Much Does Brand Really Matter for Startups?

Question I hear a lot: "How much does brand really matter for startups?"

My answer: way more than most people think.

The common line of thinking is that companies should wait until they have a lot of traction (or reached product market fit) before investing in their brand.

But actually the opposite is true. Building a strong brand early on can accelerate a startup’s path to product market fit.

That’s exactly what happened at BoomPop.

Our team spent an inordinate amount of time designing and building our brand before we had much traction as a company. When we pitched early hosts on joining our platform, a common response was, “your company looks really mature, I’ll give it a shot!" (We were less than a year old)

Of course we had to deliver an amazing experience to our customers, but just convincing early customers to take a chance on us was the ticket to our initial growth.

Fast forward to today and we’ve now worked with over 5,000 companies and over 200,000 people have done events with BoomPop. We’ve been working on improving and evolving our brand every day since 2020 and will continue to do so.

Moral of our story? It's never too early to invest in your brand.
